Sparrow is a developer toolkit that aims to help you lower communication costs by using shared cellular or Wi-Fi connectivity with a cluster of low-cost LoRa sensors. Imagine a scenario where you have 10-15 sensors spread throughout a facility. Instead of using one Notecard per sensor, Sparrow uses LoRa to communicate between the sensors and a single Notecard-powered Sparrow gateway to backhaul data to Notehub.io.
With Sparrow, our familiar JSON-based development experience is extended all the way down to individual LoRa sensor nodes: JSON is sent from sensors to the LoRa gateway, securely routed through the Notecard, then on to Notehub and your cloud app of choice.
The Sparrow Development Kit contains everything you need to get started building device cluster applications with the Notecard.
Kit Contents:
-
A Wi-Fi Notecard
-
A Notecarrier A with upgraded antennas and Qwiic connectors
-
2 Sparrow Reference Sensors with onboard motion (PIR), temp, and humidity (BME280) sensors in a ready-to-deploy enclosure
-
3 Sparrow Essentials Boards (one for Gateway and two for adding your own sensors)
-
4 AAA Lithium Batteries for the Reference sensors
-
3 CR2032 Coin cell batteries for the Essentials boards
-
1 STLINK-V3MINI for sensor programming
-
1 USB Cable
-
1 Female-to-Female JST SH (Qwiic) connector for turning your Notecard and Notecarrier into a LoRa gateway
After purchasing a Sparrow Kit, head over to dev.blues.io to learn more about Sparrow, how to set up your devices, connect to Notehub.io and even host your own Sparrow app dashboard so you can monitor your devices from anywhere.

Note: the Sparrow module is currently pending FCC certification. Customers should avoid deploying Sparrow sensors in a production setting until certification is finalized in early 2023.
Notecards
View allThe Notecard is a device-to-cloud data pump that reduces the complexity of building connected solutions with secure, reliable cellular. As an embeddable system on module (SoM), the Notecard can be used with any microcontroller for both greenfield and retrofit projects using your own design, or one of our custom designed Notecarriers.
With just two lines of code you can send data to the cloud in minutes, no complex device registration or provisioning required. With a powerful JSON-based API, you can program the Notecard over USB, or control it from your preferred microcontroller or single-board computer using one of our open-source firmware libraries. Connect from your preferred host to the Notecard using Serial or I2C.
The Notecard is designed to work with a cloud service for ingesting and processing device data. Notehub.io provides secure device connectivity, project and fleet management, and simple routing to 3rd party cloud services. Alternatively, host your own Device service based on our open source reference implementation.

Blues has expanded its line of Notecards to include a suite of coverage options so you can tailor the device to your use case.
With this expansion, you can select a device that provides either wideband (CAT-1) or narrowband (CAT-M and NB-IoT) connectivity paired with a Global, North American, or European regional coverage model.
To add to this dramatically increased coverage, we’ve included a dual-embedded SIM option that can expand coverage to additional countries and more coverage in those countries while giving you improved reliability and carrier support.
But no matter which device you use, you’ll still experience the same unmatched engineering experience, and have free access to Notehub to route your data to the cloud.
